Your Order
How is the tax amount calculated?
Through a quantum algebraic theoretical method called guestimation. Or we use an third-party company to precisely calculate tax so you're paying just the right amount, no more, no less. Keepin' the gov happy.
Why was the tax removed after the order was submitted?
We hate it too when things just seem to change for no reason.. In this case our commerce platform, Shopify, calculated the tax as an initial estimate on what the tax 'could' be if all items in the cart are taxable. Then after the order is submitted, Shopify looks deeper at the items, determines that the items are a tax exempt food (spices are non-taxable in many tax jurisdictions) and then removes the tax before finalizing the order. Arg! It would be nice if Shopify did this in the first round and avoid showing the tax at all as it's confusing for sure to see it, authorize a card payment against the tax amount, then have it removed and the final charged amount on the card be less than the authorization. Not much we can do about this right now. Are you reading this Shopify? Angry customers are storming our castle! Rest assure your card will only be charged for the final amount you see in your email and in your order history.
How is the shipping fee calculated?
Weight, my friend, weight. Each product in your cart has a weight and so does the estimated packing material. The shippers use this total weight, as well as the shipping address and speed of delivery, to determine the rate. Since we ship in volume we pass those saving on to you. Your welcome.
What shipping carriers do you support?
Currently USPS and UPS. How come they use the same letters? One of life's mysteries… But between these two, they pretty much cover any kind of address and/or location. Even Guam.
What forms of payment do you support?
We're so excited to accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover cards. We love losing money on card fees! Yay! We also take our own gift cards, which you can purchase. Hint, hint. Finally we accept trades. Like you gotta horse, we'll gladly trade for two bottles of Habanero Powder. Oh, yeah!
And then there's the cool payment kids on the block. You can also pay with PayPal, Venmo, and Amazon Pay. Depending on your browser you may also be able to pay with Google Pay or Apple Pay. The options seem, well, annoyingly endless..
What appears on my card statement?
A lot of lousy purchases you're now regretting. Except for the spices that came from: Tradition Spice Co (or something similar), listed on your card statement. Don't dispute that one. In fact, buy more and more. And when you're exhausted buy more. You know a percentage goes to charity, right? Think of the children!
I paid with gift card and bank card. Do I see both charges?
Well, you see you paid with a gift card and a bank card. What where you expecting? Okay, okay, Shopify, our commerce platform, isn't the best at showing the breakdown of multiple payment methods in the order confirmation screen and initial email. You'll see that the gift card was applied and that you'll owe the rest later. But in fact your bank card was already authorized for the remaining balance (plus tax even if the tax is later removed - see another FAQ on this lovely topic). If you check the order details on traditionspice.com you'll see in the Order Details section the payment methods that were used and what was changed.
How will I know if my order shipped?
Because we'll tell you , silly. In fact, after you place your order you should receive a confirmation email that the order has been accepted. We'll then drive our tractor to the warehouse to pull product and ship your order. When that happens you should get another email, I know so many emails, indicating that the order has shipped and let you know how you can track that order. Happy?
How will I know when my order will arrive?
You really need to buy more stuff off the internet. The email that notified you of the shipment should contain a method to track your order. Click on the link (or copy/paste the tracking number in the carrier's website) to see where your delightful package is in its journey. It's out of our hands now. We did our part. The carriers are the planes, trains, and automobiles that deliver you the spices you deserve!
How will I know when my order was delivered?
Look outside your front door. Or wherever you get your packages delivered. Sheesh! It's up to the carriers to deliver the package. Typically we get a notification that the package was delivered and we can send, yet another, email to you. On occasion we might not get notified. So check that front door again. And again. And again…
Your Products
These products are great, how can I sing your praises?
Golly gee. I'm blushing (not really). We'd love to hear your story in our Community forum or via any of our social media accounts (see icons at the bottom of this page). And be sure to tell your family, neighbors, congregation, social groups, friends that you like, friends that you'd rather, well, let's not discuss, and even strangers on the street. Share the love of delicious flavors!
This product is terrible, how can I rant and complain?
Ouch. We're. Well. You know. Hurt. But we cannot please everyone, every time. And like fine wines, herbs and spices have their flavor profiles that either please or protest. Before you rip us a new one on X, reach out to Customer Service and let us see what we can do for you.
A jar was cracked or broken on arrival, what can I do?
First thing, don't use the product. While glass may seem tasty, it isn't. Believe me, we've tried. Reach out to Customer Service and we'll take care of the situation.
Not lovin' it, what are my options?
We strive to produce quality products. And you simply just hate it. Harrumph. Reach out to Customer Service and we'll take care of the situation.
Is it normal for this product to be clumpy?
It's interesting that some spices, when ground up, don't clump at all. They simply flow like melted butter. Then there are the others… Those that want to bind to itself and cause trouble. For example, chipotle powders cannot help but clump to themselves like rabbits in the spring. Our suggestion is to remove the sifter, if needed, and using a toothpick or chopstick simply break up the clumps as needed to extract the quantity you desire.
Did the spice settle, why is there space at the top?
Well yeah, it’s a powder or flake or seed. While we do try and fill the containers full of delicious herbs, spices and seasonings, during transport (those darn shipping carriers) the contents might be shaken up enough to settle farther down in the container. This does not mean you got less product. We fill each and every package to the weight on the label so you'll always get the quantity you ordered.
The sifter broke, can I get a new one?
No. Yes. Maybe. How's that for commitment? If you really want another piece of plastic that weights practically nothing but will still cost you shipping, then feel free to reach out to Customer Service and request a new sifter. Just be sure to indicate the product container size and the sifter you desire (even if different from what it originally came with). There are two kinds, an 11 hole and a 5 hole. Not to be confused with corn hole. And note that only the 4 fluid oz bottle takes a sifter. The smaller 2 fluid oz bottle is not able to accept a sifter. Blame the bottle supplier for that one...
The sifter isn't letting enough spice flow, what can I do?
"The spice must flow." is from what movie? In the case of Tradition's spice flow. If the sifter hole size just isn’t cutting it, feel free to remove the sifter. Done! Shake out what you want and reapply the sifter. If this just keeps happening, by golly, request a different sifter - see another FAQ on that very topic.
Why do some products have sifters and some do not?
Because that's the way it is, so just accept it. Or it may have something to do with the granule size of the product. Fine powders or granulated products work well with the 11-hole sifters. Leaf-based herbs or bigger seeds require the larger, 5-holer. Hmm. Reminds me of the 5-holer behind the old farm house growing up. Some don't need a sifter at all given the granule size, such as Sichuan Peppercorns.
Your Gift Cards
How do I purchase a gift card?
Gift cards are treated just like any other product. Just add it to your cart and buy it. Isn't that easy? Wow.. We really out did ourselves on this one.
How do I use a gift card to buy some amazing spices?
Well, when you purchased a gift card you should have received an email containing your gift card number. Pull up that email now. No later, now. Right now. Do it. Okay, the gift card number in your email can be copied and pasted into the "Coupon and Gift Card" field during checkout. If there is available balance it will be displayed along with the amount applied to the current cart.
Can I check my gift card balance?
Just use it.. Okay, if you must.. Find your gift card email that contains the gift card number and original balance. In that email, there is a link called "View gift card balance", that will open a browser window to look up the current balance. You may need to login to Tradition Spice if you logged out recently. The balance, if less that the full amount, will be in an amazingly small and annoying gray box above the original amount. Check your balance and then buy more spices.
I cannot find my gift card email. Can I get it again?
Ug. Losing stuff sucks. And being the one who lost the email makes you, well, a, well the one who needs to get that darn email back. Log into traditionspice.com and view the order in which you purchased the gift card(s). There is a button titled, "resend gift cards" that will try again. Also check that junk mailbox if you still don't get it. We're sending it, we swear!
Our Store
How to do login?
See the little person icon-thingy at the top right of the page? Click on that. If you need to authenticate again, you'll be asked to enter an email and receive a passcode. If you've recently been in our store, we may, just maybe, remember you and let you right in. How nice, right?
Do you support passwords?
Security is a good thing. But that doesn't answer your question, does it? Our commerce platform, Shopify, uses passwordless authentication to prevent someone from simply trying your passwords over and over and over and over to only find out you use your same email and password here as you do on your other social media accounts. Better security is to not have a password at all and use one-time passcodes from time to time. The site will remember you for a while so be sure to frequently buy spices. However, this means keep your email password safe and secure...
Can I look up my orders?
Sure thing partner! Just login (see another FAQ) and you should see your order history. Click on an order and you can see the details, even a link to shipping carriers, etc. Easy as pie. Mmmmmm pie!
